Complete bracket assembly |

This is the test assembly of the floppy drive, the main bracket and the adapter board plus bracket assembly. Trying out things before committing to screwing it together lets me make sure that I'm doing it right and helps to prevent problems later on when the consequences of a wrong decision can mean lots of back-tracking. |

The first thing I noticed was that the ribbon cable's natural tendency was to push up against the top left bracket mounting hole. In this photo, you can see that the hole is obscured by the ribbon cable. Moving the cable so that it crosses the floppy drive more diagonally cures this... |

And here is the re-oriented ribbon cable in the completed assembly aftyer putting the black self-tapping screws in. Note the diagonal slant of the ribbon cable. Also note that I've made sure that it is not trapped between the floppy drive and the bracket mount. |

The adapter board bracket is polarized so that it only fits onto the bracket in one way - the lug on the right in this photo shows this. This is a great illustration of the value of testing the assembly before actually doing it. It would have been very easy to get this wrong and assemble everything up in a way which would mean that the ribbon cables would never fit. |

This is the final assembly with the power cable and ribbon cable in place, and the black self-tapping screws installed. Note that the grey ribbon cable socket is polarized with a rectangular cut-out on the right-hand side. |
